Some call it the city of romance. Obviously, those people haven’t visited Paris in January.
I took a few hundred photos of the city during my week-long stay there. What struck me about Paris was the beautiful architecture and statues in the older parts of the city. This gallery includes 12 of my favorite photos that I took of Paris. Why 12? Because that’s what I chose.
Some photos feature placid scenes. Others show people on the street. There are a few I just thought were funny.

This is a view from the second floor of the Eiffel Tower.
Even though it was a cold day, there were many tourists visiting the Eiffel Tower to see the famous view.
This statue at Notre Dame has probably stood perched on that roof for hundreds of years.
An artist sketches a statue at the Louvre.
When we were at Versailles, everyone was evacuated from the castle. This was what the ensuing scene of people and military looked like.
This street market with fresh fruit, fish, vegetables, and meat (including rabbit) was one of the most colorful places I saw in Paris.
A horse statue bucks at the sunset in front of the Musée d’Orsay.
People gather outside as the sun sets outside of the Musée d’Orsay.
An official Moulin-Rouge-themed Barbie sits in a shop window. Barbie is everywhere and in every profession, including topless dancing.
In the morning while I walked around the neighborhood where we stayed, I came across a man on a lonely street dancing to music.
Père Lachaise is the largest cemetery in the city. This statue probably marks a soldier’s grave.
This sunny-yellow grave at Père Lachaise stood out among the gray.
